Acres for Oodles: A passive income pet sitting side gig
The Challenge
It started as an idea inspired by a now very close friend that Vanessa met on the remote coast of Western Australia. After returning home from a 14-month adventure around Australia, Vanessa, Matt, and Hugo welcomed a 4-month-old Groodle puppy, Cruza into their home. She was named after Matt’s 79 Series Land Cruiser, which was also the same colour as their new puppy!
As a typical Groodle, Cruza loved to play—but Hugo couldn’t keep up with her energy. Vanessa saw an opportunity to create a safe, happy space for energetic Oodles, and Acres For Oodles was born.
The Solution
Acres For Oodles needed a brand identity, social presence, and an online listing—no website required. Vanessa designed a logo and brand in Canva, and built a MadPaws listing and Facebook Page, creating a hub for local dog owners and Groodle enthusiasts.
The Process
There was no auditing to be done, no insights, no old website and no content! Vanessa used her design skills to create a playful and welcoming logo, reflecting open space, lush grass, and happy dogs.

The Outcome
Acres For Oodles was born!
Bookings confirmed within the first week of launch.
High demand for Easter 2025 and Christmas 2025 bookings were received months in advance.
Social content fostered strong connections with the local dog-loving community.
Most importantly, Cruza—and all visiting Oodles—were happy, well-exercised, and loved!
Vanessa was an amazing host—communication was easy, and the grounds were absolutely gorgeous for Ash to run around in. It was clear that Ash was well-loved and cared for in our absence. We’re so grateful!

Our beautiful boy Lloyd spent a week with Vanessa, Hugo and Matt at Acres for Oodles for seven nights when our family travelled to Fiji. He came home exhausted, but had a blast hanging out with Cruza. I love that Lloyd was at Vanessa’s home, he got the TLC that he is used to and could roam free if he wanted and not be limited by space at a boarding kennel. Lloyd will definitely be returning to Acres for Oodles x
